On 17 September, the European Court of Justice answered the questions from the Council of State concerning the fees the IND imposes on certain categories of Turkish citizens. In short, the answer of the European Court of Justice is that certain categories of Turkish citizens wrongfully have to pay disproportionately more fees than citizens of EU countries. The Council of State will issue a ruling on the basis of the answer of the European Court of Justice.
The Ministry of Justice is currently giving careful consideration to the meaning of the ruling with respect to the manner in which the fees are imposed on Turkish citizens that reside in the Netherlands. The current fees will be maintained for as long as the ruling is still being studied.
