Temporary emergency facility
The application centre uses a system of appointments. The objective of this system is to allow the IND to properly plan the asylum procedure and to ensure that a qualified interpreter is available at the right time. This appointment system means that, after the reporting and registration process, an asylum seeker may sometimes be placed on a waiting list for a short time before the commencement of the asylum procedure. During this period the asylum seeker may be given accommodation in the temporary emergency facility.
Temporary residence permit
This permit allows a foreign national to stay in the Netherlands longer than 3 months. There are two types of temporary residence permit: Regular and Asylum.
The age examination
It may be that the IND is unsure about the age an unaccompanied underage asylum seeker (AMA) has given. If the AMA does not have documentation to support his stated age, he may request a so-called age examination.
In the age examination X-rays will be taken of the collarbone and the hand/ wrist joint. Independent physicians will assess whether the collarbone and hand/wrist joint have finished growing. It is possible to determine from the collarbone if a person is older or younger than 20. From the hand/wrist joint it can be determined if a person is older or younger than 15.
This examination does not affect the person’s health.
Tourist visa
Officially this is the short stay visa. A foreign national applies for the tourist visa at the Dutch Embassy or Consulate in his country of origin. A tourist visa can be applied for, for a maximum of 3 months. The tourist visa comes in the form of a label. The Embassy or Consulate will attach the tourist visa to your passport.

A foreign national will need a transit visa if he comes from a country with a visa requirement and needs to travel through the Schengen area in no more than 5 days. The final destination is a country outside the Schengen territory for which the foreign national has already arranged entry.

C-visa: tourist visa for a maximum of 3 months
