When can you expect a decision?

It takes on average 3 to 6 months before you are advised as to whether you can collect your provisional residence permit. You will normally receive the decision regarding your application for a residence permit within 6 months. The IND will send the decision regarding your application for a short stay visa to the Dutch Embassy to which you submitted the application within 3 months. The Embassy will inform you of the decision. 

Questions regarding the status of your application can only be put to the IND by telephone. Call the IND and have the following information to hand: 

• surname and first name (and maiden name if applicable)  
• place and date of birth 
• nationality 
• file number
