Upon arrival in the Netherlands

When the foreign national enters the Netherlands, he/she should apply for a residence permit for a fixed period at the IND office for labour and highly skilled migrants.  

Period of validity

The residence permit of a highly skilled migrant is granted for the duration of the work agreement, up to a maximum of five years. 

Important!
You are applying for a residence permit for someone to reside in the Netherlands. In that case, the Dutch government will require personal details. Our aim is to handle these details with due care. This is why the Personal Data Protection Act (Wbp) applies in this case.

Illegal stay

Is someone staying in the Netherlands without a valid residence permit? If so, he/she is in the country illegally, and should leave without delay. If the person does not do so voluntarily, the IND will remove him from the country.
