Partners

The IND closely collaborates with a number of partners. Each partner is partly responsible for the implementation of the aliens policy. Below, we will give you an overview of all parties involved and their respective duties within the immigration process.

Royal Marechaussee
• First reception of asylum seekers, primarily at Schiphol Airport. 
• Escort of foreign nationals that have exhausted all legal remedies and are not allowed to stay in the Netherlands and escort of anyone denied access at the Dutch border. 
• Reception of foreign nationals at the Dutch/Belgian and Dutch/German borders, sea ports and air ports.

Vreemdelingenpolitie (Aliens police) 
• Ensuring that only foreign nationals that are legally residing in the Netherlands are on Dutch territory. 
• Controlling criminal acts and public order problems relating to foreign nationals.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs
• Implementation of the visa policy. 
• Determining the visa obligations for individual countries.

Centraal Orgaan opvang asielzoekers (COA) (Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers
• Providing housing for asylum seekers 
• Making sure that asylum seekers use existing social and health-care institutions as much as possible. 
• Offering activities that increase the asylum seekers’ chances of an independent existence, both in their country of origin and in the Netherlands.

Internationale Organisatie voor Migratie (IOM) (International Organisation for Migration) 
• Offering support for foreign nationals that have exhausted all legal remedies and are not allowed to stay in the Netherlands who voluntarily return to their country of origin.

Municipalities 
• Providing foreign nationals that wish to stay for more than three months in the Netherlands an office to apply for a residence permit. 
• Dealing with naturalisation petitions. 
• Entering data of foreign nationals with a residence permit in the Municipal Administration, making them eligible for all sorts of provisions and documents, such as a passport or driving licence.

Dienst Terugkeer & Vertrek (Repatriation and Departure Service)
• Making arrangements for the actual departure of foreign nationals who are not entitled to stay in the Netherlands. 
• Responsible for ensuring that departure takes place in a careful, dignified and timely manner.
